Our partners Dream Big Ghana are an incredible NGO working in the Volta Region of Ghana, improving sanitation, education and public health for the local community. Dream Big have a phenomenal team employed from the communities they work within - Dzita and Agbledomi. The NGO’s main source of funding is the not-for-profit, Meet Me There African Home Lodge, which is also the NGO’s HQ.
Tippy Tap in use
Since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, Meet Me There made the tough decision early on to close its doors to visitors, instantly turning the Lodge’s work into an entirely new focus: soap manufacturing and Tippy Tap building. These foot-operated, hand washing facilities are extremely important for households within the community that have a lack of running water. As the biggest challenge in preventing the spread of coronavirus in the local community is the lack of hand washing facilities available. Their goal is to build 1500 tippy-taps for 1500 households (10,000 people) and also provide soap at 80% LESS than the market price for 3 months. All throughout this the materials and labour will be sourced locally to keep the economy strong, alongside conducting house-to-house education awareness sessions in the community.

Today is Day 10 and Meet Me There's soap store has made over 2000 Litres of soap and installed 546 tippy taps! Families are also now trained to build their own frames for the taps, which has halved the cost of installation from £6.00 to £3.00.
Community nurse Rose has also been conducting education and awareness sessions on COVID-19/ including the importance of hand washing for every household.
